Ants can smell food and will travel towards it if the scent lingers in the air. Keeping your home and yard clean helps in preventing an ant infestation. 

Clean Out Trash Cans

Dirty trash cans filled with food and liquid play a large role in ant infestations. No matter if you keep your trash cans outside or inside your garage, ants will sense that there is waste nearby. They will be in your trash cans before you know, and most likely will try to enter your home. Their small size makes it especially easy for them to get into your home.
